Exploring Division-I Student-Athletes’ Memorable Messages From Their Anticipatory Socialization

This study explored the socialization of 118 Division-I student-athletes via the topics of memorable messages that they received prior to their arrival on campus. Ten topics were identified (i.e., desirable attitudes, hard work, physical skill or ability, opportunities, pride, inclusion, challenges, athletes as symbols, the importance of education, and the duration of college athletics) using first cycle coding and were subsequently categorized as either addressing the characteristics or experiences of collegiate student-athletes using second cycle coding. These findings continue to demonstrate that characteristics and experiences associated with roles are prevalent within athletes’ memorable messages but also highlight the inherent ambiguity and the contradictions regarding how to use these messages and balance the dual roles of being a student-athlete. This study provides a novel communicative lens for understanding athlete socialization but underscores the need to recognize receivers’ processing and application of memorable messages.  相似文献

根据莱考夫和约翰逊的概念隐喻和意象图式理论,针对作为意象图式概念的＂Timeo Wew Romvn＂型前置词在科技英语中的图式映射进行新探。研究表明＂Timeo Wew Romvn＂都能够把空间域的意象图式结构从始源域映射到非空间抽象目标域之上,再次佐证＂许多抽象概念结构部分源起于意象图式结构,抽象思维在一定程度上是隐喻思维＂的认知观。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

To what extent does soccer increase the capability of the homeless and those living on the street? This study addresses this question by focusing on the ways in which the Homeless World Cup and Street Soccer (Scotland) have impacted upon the lives of some individuals. Primary source data obtained from a series of interviews are situated within Sen’s capability approach to social choice theory. The implications of the study contribute to policy by supporting the idea that sport can contribute as a resource of hope through the development of capability that impacts upon life chances and choices. It adds to a growing number of applied studies of sport that have critically used the work of Sen and it advances the way in which this body of work has been utilized in sport and related areas.  相似文献

对心灵本性的求索,成为几千年人类文明的最高智慧。近代心灵哲学围绕身心二元论和身心一元论的分歧展开。以笛卡尔为代表的身心二元论认为身体与心灵分属不同的实体;身心一元论则认为不存在独立于身体的心灵,精神是物质构成的身体属性的一部分,心灵可以完全归结为生理、物理运动。当代生命科学、信息科学的进展,正从科学的意义上揭示心灵的本质。心灵是存在于、但又独立于身体的信息,其物理载体是脑中变化着的脑电流。参透心灵的信息本质,不仅带来思想观念的深刻革命;而且使人们得以展望生命科学技术一系列堪称梦想成真的未来前景,如“永生的生命”的可实现性,拥有自我、具有情感的人工智慧生命的出现,心灵“自我编号”的破译和心灵的自由释放,网界生命的出现,等等。  相似文献
